the one and only
FULL NAME: What are you, some kind of cop!? The name is Harlequin Stephenie Powers.
NICK NAME(S): Either Ace, or Leaf; my friends call me Leaf a lot more than anything else.
AGE: Eighteen years under my neon belt.
BIRTHDAY: Does this mean a present? Because, generally speaking, when people ask a person their birthday it means that they're going to get them a present. Oh, and it's; February the twenty ninth, nineteen ninety one.
PLACE OF BIRTH: Er, on the roof of a caravan in the middle of nowhere while it was snowing.
PLAY-BY: Apparently I look like someone called; Sierra Kusterbeck, do you agree?

it's a lifestyle
OCCUPATION: Not really one for taking orders from other people, Harlequin was unemployed for a while before she realised that her mother had stopped her monthly income and requested she find a job, which she did. Harlequin works at The Java Hut and is supposedly a student; when she actually finds the time to go to school.
BAND: She's rocking the business with the girls of Because We Can.
POSITION: Harlequin plays second fiddle to Saint - Lead guitarist and backing vocals.
BAND HISTORY: Having known each other for a very long time, Harlequin and the girls of Because We Can formed a band just four years ago, with her as Lead guitarist and backing vocals. Just like any other group of friends, the girls have their ups and down, but that's to be expected of a group of people who've known each other almost their whole lives. At one point, Harlequin dropped everything and everyone to be by herself because of what was going on within her family, but eventually she came through for her friends and now they're as strong as ever.

you know I'm so hot
APPEARANCE: Like any other girl, Harlequin has a few appearance flaws, but they are only minor and not distinguished with her other features. She's pretty, yes, but not overly beautiful and full of plastic like other girls are. Harlequin has a face that looks kind of old before young and a dazed expression mists her grey/green eyes almost all the time. Smooth and flawless (despite the tiny mole on the left side of her face, but that's hardly noticeable). Her hair is long and wavy with a long-ish fringe swept to the left side of her face, leaning over her eyes and shadowing her eyebrows. Along with her natural hair color being brown, the sun bleaches her fringe and top of her head; turning it a nice shade of blonde - it's like highlights, only she doesn't need to pay to have them done because they come completely naturally to her!
STYLE: As far as clothes go, Harlequin is willing to wear anything and everything that you give her, as long as it's not something as ridiculous as a Granny's nightdress - though she will admit that she actually did wear one of those once, as a joke. Her usual style is jeans with a vest type t-shirt and a checkered shirt over the top. Occasionally she will wear a skirt, but that is only on very special occasions (like going out with her best friends), even then she'll want to wear a pair of leggings underneath to hide her legs. Her usual choice of shoes is either Converse, Vans or Nike; doesn't matter what color because color is something she really likes. Oh, and one last thing; Harlequin is an avid; hat, scarf and sunglasses wearer - no matter what the weather, though not all at once.
MARKINGS: At the age of three, Harlequin had an accident than involved a pot of boiling hot water and her father when he was trying to cut up a carrot into the pot of boiling water. This caused the rather strange burn and knife scar on her chest and shoulder - something she keeps hidden. Harlequin also has another scar on her knee from the time she fell off her skateboard.
PIERCINGS: Several, three in one ear, two in the other and two piercings in her nose; a stud in the right side and a ring in the left side, she would like to get her lip pierced at a later date.
all the small things
LIKES: There are many things that a young lady, such as Harlequin likes, for instance - the way the rain feels on her skin, it's a nice feeling, something you'd need to try before you judge. The smell of freshly baked bread, a heavenly smell if ever there was one, leaves in autumn; crisp and full of noise when you jump in them. Spray paints, for making her mark on walls, benches, etc... Clouds, sometimes she'll just be there; laying in the grass, watching the different shapes pass her by. Envelopes; well mostly only the ones that contain christmas cards. Sharpie pens - those are fun to doodle with. Apples, it is a rare occasion where you'll find Harlequin without an apple in her hand or bag. Sunglasses and hats are huge likes of her, as are 3-D glasses and puppies.
DISLIKES: Harlequin can't find very much that she doesn't like, to be perfectly honest. Apart from the fact that her father died; this was because of his over-use of drugs and his constant drinking of alcohol. If she could erase her past, that would be good. The boys of All Systems Are Go! are jerks, she dislikes them... a lot. Dishonest people really get on her nerves, as do cheaters and people who think they're better than others. Harlequin gets upset easily, something insensitive people find funny. Her mother is another thing that she dislikes, because of the way she treated her after her father died.
STRENGTHS: At one point, Harlequin's mother told her that her voice was her most powerful asset, she wasn't sure if to believe her or not. Saint once told her that she was very good at believing in people and believing in herself. She's able to listen to people's problems and give advice to those that need it. Harlequin can resist temptations of substances, alcohol and all manner of other things.
WEAKNESSES: While she knows how to listen to people and give them advice where needed and can resist the temptations of things, Harlequin's main weakness is giving in to people's words. She is way too self-concious about her image and at times can become very upset easily. Not one for shouting or being rude, Harlequin can actually be very sarcastic when she wants to be and has problems in knowing when to shut up, though she also has a bad tendancy of becoming very shy when meeting new people. Her fears. OCD.
FEARS: For someone like Harlequin, having fears is a big deal. She's afraid of a number of things but doesn't let people see that she is. For starters, she's has a serious case of claustrophobia - being confined in a small space; part of the reason why she'll refuse to go camping or step into an elevator. Alektorophobia; why chickens? Well, because. Arachnophobia, of spiders, though she would willingly pick up a worm. Automatonophobia, because dummies and store mannequins look strangely disturbing. Automysophobia - this could be a part of her OCD, because she washes her hands an awful lot. Other, more normal fears of hers include; losing someone, death, giving in too her fears and being too self-concious with herself.
HABITS: A really bad habit of Harlequin's is twirling her hair, usually around her finger, or a pencil. Chewing pencils when deep in concentration. Leaving her food whenever certain items are touching, speaking French at the most inappropriate of times and the thing with her fingers - constantly 'playing the piano'.
GOALS: To get over her fears and to make it big with her girls.
SECRET: There are two secrets that Harlequin keeps quiet, only having told Saint once about both of them; the first being her OCD and the second being her dyslexia. It's not that she's ashamed of them, it's just that she doesn't want the boys of ASAG! to find out. She tried to committ suicide at the age of thirteen because of what her father was putting himself through.

quite the charmer
PERSONALITY: To describe the one named Harlequin Stephenie Powers, you would need all the time in the world; her personality is rather confusing and occasionally contradicting on certain aspects of it. To begin with we can start by describing her as 'straight-edge' - this means that she doesn't drink, smoke, take drugs or even sleep around with different people (though she will admit that she did try alcohol once, but didn't like it). The only reason why she is this way, is because of her history; the way her father destroyed himself with alcohol and drugs put her off, not wanting to follow in that direction. At a party, Harlequin will drink either apple or orange juice and is the type of friend who knows when to stop and when a person has had enough to drink; at the end of the night she's also the one to drive the girls home at the end of the night because she's the only one sober enough to stand up at three am in the morning. Harlequin is definitely to type of friend that you'd want to stick around for a long time.
Though, she's probably also the kind of person that you'd find annoying if you weren't to know her as well as some do already. Harlequin has an aspect of her personality that annoys her to no end; her constant obssessions with washing her hands, counting her steps and perfecting things around her is bringing her down - she had wondered (on occasions) that if she weren't to have OCD then maybe she would have more friends. Because of this her self-esteem is lower than that of someone of her age, as is her confidence when around new people and certain situations. She is shy, yes, but when it comes to confrontation you can guarentee that Harlequin will be up there, at the front of the line; first to lash out with either verbal of physical abuse. Just because she doesn't feel confident with herself, doesn't mean to say that she won't go out of her way to get a point across to a person that doesn't fully understand something, or another. What? I did say she was confusing.
As was mentioned afore, Harlequin won't hesitate to lash out at someone; being slightly confrontational when mixed with certain people (mainly the boys of All Systems Are Go!). She wasn't brought up to be a violent person, neither was she brought up in an abusive household, it was just years of working hard on trying to keep herself calm in the destructiveness of her father, to himself, that led to her becoming this way. After his death she had no way to calm herself and had given up on playing the piano because now that he was dead, Harlequin saw no point in carrying on his legacy - she became angry too easily and provoked. His death hit her hard and with nothing to do anymore, the girl's behaviour became out of control - it didn't help that her mother had started to blame her for what had happened; which, in turn, led her to starting to believe that everything that went wrong with herself and her friends was all her fault.
Another reason why you would want Harlequin as a friend is because she is one of these that is able to listen to what you have to say and not be judgemental about it. She's loyal, caring to those deserving of her friendship and has this uncanny ability of knowing what you're thinking about without you having to do or say anything. If there is something you can not do, or need to talk about to get if off your chest then go to Harlequin; she'll be there to offer advice and won't be offended if you don't take it, maybe a tad disappointed but she won't take it officially to heart. Harlequin believes in people and will help a person whether they know they need help or not. Oh, and don't cross her path or double-cross her, you won't know what has hit you if you do, she is confrontational, though shy and strangely agile for her stature.

you know I can't resist
SEXUALITY: Harlequin is bisexual, leaning slightly more towards the female gender than the males.
TURN ONS: A good sense of humor is a great turn on, because there's no sense in boring her because she will loose interest quickly, as is willingness of doing anything in acts, a little variety is the key to a beautiful relationship. Beautiful eyes is another because Harlequin finds eyes attractive; they say things that people can not voice. Good looks are essential to her, though you don't have to be overly pretty to get in her red book of good looking people, as long as you don't have a pizza face or are grotesquely overweight. Sensitivity to others is a great turn on, Harlequin likes people who are sensitive to the other persons needs and won't judge them on things they do or say. And, of course, someone who likes music.
TURN OFFS: One of the biggest turn offs that Harlequin has is people with disgusting habits, it's terribly gross. People who are overly submissive annoy her to no end, as do people who just want to dominate the whole relationship. Also vain people who are constantly going on about how they look and asking if they look okay - she gets that you are pretty, okay? And then there's the people who become agitated when they see her with another person; I believe that is called jealousy.
RELATIONSHIP HISTORY: If Harlequin was to be honest with you, she would admit that there has ever only been one relationship that she had, when she was five - at that age, it wasn't really all that much of a big deal and she didn't fully understand the fundamentals of a relationship. The boy she 'dated' was called Zachary and he was the dominant part of the relationship, something that later on Harlequin would come to despise. What she really craves in a relationship is stability and being able to be free with her actions; without consequence. As of this moment in time, she doesn't think that she'll ever be able to settle down, because of the way she is, however; what she seeks most in a person for a relationship, is a sensitive personality alongside someone who will not judge her for her decisions in life - she is straight edge and has never had sex with another person before.
legend in the making
MOTHER: Harlequin's mother, Carlie Andrews is a bit of a bitch, at the age of fifty-seven, she's now the single mother of one child who has 'destroyed the family' and wishes to wash her hands of her. She married Harlequin's father at the age of twenty and bore her at the age of thirty eight. The relationship between, Harlequin and her mother is a distant one, neither really wanting to acknowledge the others presence, or existance.
FATHER: Her father, Thai Powers, however, was the complete opposite, unfortunately he died at the age of fifty-three from a drug induced coma. His drug addictions and alcoholism was something that he wasn't proud of and he had promised Harlequin that he would get himself better; he died before he got better and this hit her real hard because they were extremely close.
SIBLINGS: Unforunately, or fortunately; Harlequin is an only child.
HISTORY: At the age of eighteen, Carlie Andrews and Thai Powers were an item and due to get married in the not-so-near future; many people thought that this relationship wouldn't be one to last very long. Not since Thai was a drug addict and an alcoholic, whilst Carlie was domineering and demanding in the relationship. She had come from a rich background and was spoiled as a child, he came from a slightly poorer background and was not spoiled as a child; he had three older brothers and two younger sisters, plus a step-brother - the middle child is almost always forgotten. Well, according to Thai anyway. However; the relationship did last and two years later, Carlie Andrews became Carlie Powers; of course her parents didn't really approve of the wedding and ended up blowing up any and all contact with their only child. Thai's parents, on the other hand, most certainly approved; though not all of them attended the wedding. Once the wedding was over and three years had passed; they decided to try for a baby to complete the family, only that didn't work out and gave up after three more years. It wasn't until Carlie turned thirty-eight did she find that she was actually pregnant, with child. Thai was estatic; Carlie was unsure, but followed through.
Nine months later, Carlie gave birth to a baby girl on top of a caravan in the middle of a snowstorm, whom they named Harlequin - Stephenie; she had blonde hair and dark eyes. For a long time, Thai was clean from the drugs and rarely drank alcohol; he wanted to be there for his child and see her grow up into a beautiful young person. The parents wanted the absolute best for their child and strived to bring her up as best they could. At the age of three a devestating accident occured which almost cost Harlequin her life. Her mother was at work and her father was busy in the kitchen, preparing dinner, whilst his little girl was comfy on the couch, coloring in with her crayons. Harlequin found herself suddenly hungry and climbed down from the couch; she shuffled into the kitchen and tugged on her father's short legs - he jumped, not realising what was going on; he knocked a pot of boiling hot water off of the stove and when he tried to grab it, to stop it from falling on Harlequin; he dropped the knife. Unfortunately, Harlequin was in the way of both items and the result was a hospital stay of three weeks and a scar on her chest and shoulder which would last a lifetime. Her father never forgave himself for this.
When Carlie found out, she went mental; of course she understood that it was an accident but she still wanted to keep her baby out of his way for as long as possible every day. Effectively, the course of actions that led up to this; caused Thai to relapse while Carlie enrolled Harlequin into tot piano lessons to keep her away. Unable to fully understand what was going on, the tot just went along with it and eventually (as the years progessed), she went from learning not only piano, but also guitar - singing lessons were on their way too. Her mother had forced all of this onto her, but she found that she really did enjoy herself and completely understood guitar and piano fundamentals; it was a way to express herself when times at home were hard. Thai was still annoyed with himself about the accident two years later and decided that fresh new start was important, so they moved, all the way from Quebec, Canada to Fairview in America. It wasn't a huge transition, but it still confused little Harlequin. At the age of seven, the idea of a new place and new home, much bigger than her old one, was kind of daunting and she feared that she'd be unable to fit in with the other people her age. Fortunately, she did fit in and it wasn't too long before she found herself new friends and became close with them. These were the girls of Because We Can.
As the years continued (still), Harlequin's father became progessively worse and as she grew older, she understood what was going on and tried to plead with him on several occasions to stop before he died. He promised her that he would try and he would try his darn best, because she had asked him and he hated seeing her upset. At the age of thirteen, when it became evident to Harelquin that he wasn't going to stop his ways anytime soon; she dropped out of school and started to seclude herself from her family and her friends, when they tried to talk to her, she wouldn't listen and refused to tell them what was going on behind the closed doors. This caused a rift between them and she split apart from them for several months to be with herself. Unable to take anymore of the torment of what her father was doing not only to himself, but to her as well, Harlequin considered suicide. She tried three different forms of suicide; the first being hanging, which didn't succeed. The second was through cutting, which also didn't succeed. However, her third attempt was by far the most dangerous; underage driving. Though she only succeeded in putting herself in hospital for several weeks after crashing her father's car into a house. What she thought would make her father see sense, only made his addictions grow and grow and grow. Harlequin knew she had failed him as a daughter and he knew that he had failed her as a father, she stopped playing the piano.
It wasn't until he was fifty-three did Harlequin really see the real Thai Powers. After she had fallen off of her skateboard and cut her knee, he lost it completely - had made her sit in the living room and made her watch him drink himself into oblivion and then take drug after drug, after drug; he thought he was teaching her a valuable lesson about how drugs affect people, but that wasn't strictly true. Harlequin sat there and listened to what he had to say, but she also sat there and watched him as he killed himself slowly. He made her do that, it was going to haunt her in her dreams for the next lifetime, only she didn't know what was going on. When she fully understood what he was doing, she panicked and started shouting at him to stop; even throwing things when it got too bad. Harlequin begged and pleaded with him to stop, she called the paramedics, unfortunately they arrived a little too late - her father had died in her arms and she was scared. The one person she had ever truly loved in her fourteen years had died while she had watched, powerless. When her mother returned from work that night she found Harlequin curled up in the middle of the living room floor, staring at the carpet; her eyes red and swollen, tears falling down her face and unwilling to talk. A police officer was also there, he explained what had happened. When the officer left, her mother physically picked her up from the floor and started to shout at her about how this was all her fault and that she was a cruel, evil child. And she believed this, completely.
At sixteen, Harlequin passed her driving test, found herself a job and managed to save up enough money by the time she was seventeen to get a place of her own, away from her mother. Her friends all know that her father died, but she had never told them how he had died and that she had had to watch him die; she can't bring herself to do it. Maybe when the time is right, it will all come crashing and she'll explode - but for now, she just wants to be happy and be with her friends. Though sometimes her mother verbally abuses her over the phone, Harlequin just tends to ignore it. She has her own place, she has her friends and she has her personality; what more could she actually, physically ask for?
